Kerbs are not safe

I completely agree with Jean about the state of the pavements. Not long ago I had to use a mobility scooter myself for a few weeks, and it is not until you try to negotiate the cracks and bumps that you realise just how bad the pavements are. There is also the problem of finding places where the kerb is low enough to cross the road, I often found I had no choice but to negotiate some distance along on the road because having found a spot low enough to get off the pavement to cross, there is often not a corresponding spot on the other side of the road. this is obviously not the safest of thing to do, especially on a busy road like Brooklands. Then there are the inconsiderate people who park their cars half on the pavement, not leaving enough space to pass. If this happens to be in an area where there is no low spot in the kerb, you can be forced to turn around and go back for a considerable distance before being able to get onto the road to bypass the parked car.   more...
